Emily Swecker is an award-winning journalist who joined the WSET team in November 2017. She started as a reporter on Good Morning Virginia. Now you can find her anchoring the weekend newscasts and reporting during the week.
Emily is from Pennsylvania. After graduating from West Virginia University, she moved to Georgia to begin her career. While in Macon, she was the live morning reporter and fill-in anchor, covering severe weather events, including tropical storms, tornadoes, and fires.
Since starting at ABC 13, Emily has enjoyed working with military members in Central Virginia, spotlighting their efforts to honor those who have served, and to reduce homelessness among veterans. Emily also enjoys working with the local animal shelters and non-profit organizations. In 2018, she participated in the Dancing with the Lynchburg Stars event to benefit Big Brothers Big Sister of Central Virginia. The same year, Emily earned a Second Place Award for Best Reporter from the Virginia Associated Press.
In her spare time, you can find her running along the trails by the river with her rescue dog, Bailey, or checking out new restaurants in the area.
