Hillcats win 4th straight over Fayetteville, 6-4

The Lynchburg Hillcats used a late rally to surge past the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, 6-4, for their fourth straight win.

Lynchburg (26-21 second half) fell behind early, with Fayetteville (17-30 second half) taking a 4-1 lead on Luis Baez's 3 run home run. The Hillcats remained in the game, thanks to Austin Peterson (ND, 4.32 ERA)'s 6 strikeouts over the first 5 innings. The Lynchburg bats kept producing hits, but had little success turning them into runs iuntil the 7th, when the 'Cats finally cashed in. Robert Lopez plaed two runs on a line drive to center field, plating Angel Zarate and Alex Mooney to get within one run at 4-3. Two Batters later, Jose Devers crushed a ball over the left center field fence for a 3 run home run. Zach Jacobs (W, 8-2, 4.33 ERA) made that lead hold, allowing just one hit and no runs over the final four innings, while striking out four.

The win moves Lynchburg within three games of the Carolina Mudcats in first place. Carolina fell to Kannapolis, 3-0, on Saturday night.

The series finale at Fayetteville is Sunday, with the Lynchburg Hillcats returning home to host Delmarva Tuesday night.
