Hillcats beat Potomac 5-1 to complete three-game sweep
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Triston McKenzie allowed just one run over seven innings and struck out 10 to help lead the Hillcats past Potomac 5-1 Thursday night.
With the win, Lynchburg completes a three-game sweep of the Nationals.
When McKenzie pitched the seventh, the Hillcats and Nationals were tied at one. But Ka'ai Tom helps make McKenzie a winner with an rbi triple in the bottom of the seventh.
The Hillcats then broke it open with three runs in the eighth, including rbi singles by Mitch Longo and Anthony Miller.
With his 12th win, McKenzie retakes the Carolina League lead over his teammate Aaron Civale, who picked up his 11th win to tie McKenzie on Wednesday night.
Lynchburg now hits the road to Wilmington for a four-game series that will complete the regular season. The Hillcats open playoff action Wednesday night at either Frederick or Salem.
Frederick beat Salem 6-4 Thursday night and leads the Red Sox by two games with four to play for the right to face Lynchburg in round one of the postseason.
