All area minor league teams pick up wins Friday night
ZEBULON, NC (WSET/Hillcats) - The Lynchburg Hillcats snapped a three-game losing streak, beating the Carolina Mudcats, 9-7, on Friday night.
The Hillcats (42-47, 13-9) went ahead for good in the fourth inning when they broke a 4-4 tie against Carolina (46-45, 12-9).
Anthony Miller led off with a single and Alexis Pantoja walked to start the inning. Ernie Clement lined an RBI double off the left field fence to push the Hillcats in front. A batter later, Mitch Longo grooved a two-run double to the left-center gap, scoring Pantoja and Clement to give Lynchburg a 7-4 lead.
WILMINGTON, Del. (WSET/Salem Red Sox) Darwinzon Hernandez kept dealing scoreless frames while Trenton Kemp and Jerry Downs bashed two-run dingers Friday night, and the Salem Red Sox rolled to a huge 10-1 victory over the Wilmington Blue Rocks at Frawley Stadium.
Salem (13-9, 45-45) registered their biggest margin of victory of the year in the win, topping their previous high of seven runs.
PULASKI, Va. (WSET/Pulaski Yankees) - Luis Rijo took the hill for the Pulaski Yankees and tossed six sensational innings leading to an 8-1 win over the Bristol Pirates on Friday night. The victory gave the Yanks a series win over Bristol, taking three of four games to kick off a seven-game homestand.
Max Burt tripled for a second consecutive night and did so in the first inning with one out. Next batter, Everson Pereira singled to left field to open the scoring. Later in the frame, Carlos Narvaez singled on a line drive to center field to score Pereira. Similar to the night prior, Pulaski pulled away in the middle innings to take a commanding lead.
