VT linebacker suspended from team, facing drug charges
BLACKSBURG, Va. (WSET) -- A football player at Virginia Tech has been arrested on drug charges and was suspended from the team indefinitely.
The team posted on Twitter that Tavante Beckett, a linebacker, has been suspended indefinitely from practice, competition, and team-related activities.
According to the Montgomery County General District Court's website, Beckett is charged with conspiracy to distribute marijuana, a class 5 felony, and possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor; he was released on a $2,500 unsecured bond, according to court records.
He is scheduled for a hearing on September 22 at 8:30 a.m.
