Virginia Tech to meet Alabama in NCAA Basketball first-round game
BLACKSBURG, Va. (WSET) - Virginia Tech got an 8 seed in the East Region and will face 9 seed Alabama in a late first-round game Thursday night, 9:20, in Pittsburgh.
The Hokies hosted a Selection Sunday Watch Party Sunday night inside Cassell Coliseum.
Tech is 21-and-11 overall, coming off that tough loss to Notre Dame in the ACC Tournament.
This is the Hokies' second-straight NCAA bid, the first time in 32 years Tech will play in back-to-back NCAA Tournaments. Alabama is coached by former NBA player and coach Avery Johnson.
Buzz Williams, VIRGINIA TECH HEAD COACH (HOKIES #8 SEED IN EAST), said "I know this sounds wrong. I think it's valuable now how we lost to Notre Dame. You would rather that happen in the conference tournament than the NCAA Tournament."
Devin Wilson, HOKIES R-SENIOR GUARD, said "They're riding high while we're gonna riding low this last week. So it'll be interesting to see those two things clash together and hopefully it turns out to be a good game."
Justin Bibbs, HOKIES SENIOR GUARD, said "Just can't wait to get on the practice, you know can't wait to get into practice, be around my guys. That's really it."
