Raleigh, NC (WSET) - It wasn't pretty, but Virginia was tough enough to survive in overtime and hold off N.C. State 66-65 in Tuesday night ACC action.
Kyle Guy hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with two minutes left in the extra period to help the Cavaliers pull out the hard-fought win.
De'Andre Hunter led Virginia with 15 points, Ty Jerome added 12 and Guy 10.
Virginia matched a season-high with 16 turnovers, and Hunter fouled Markell Johnson on a desperation three for the tie with .9 seconds left in overtime.
Johnson, who led the Wolfpack, missed the first free throw, made the second and then sank the third while apparently trying to miss to give State a chance for a rebound and tying field goal.
N.C. State rallied from 14 down early in the second half to force overtime despite shooting 34 percent.
Virginia plays host to Miami Saturday while the Wolfpack host Virginia Tech on Saturday, both games are 2 o'clock tip-offs.
