LU Softball going for first NCAA Tournament win
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Big South Softball champion Liberty will open play in the NCAA Tournament in Columbia, South Carolina this Friday evening at 5 against Hofstra.
Number 9 overall seed South Carolina is the host for the double-elimination regional.
The Flames will bring a program-record 17-game winning streak into the regional following Saturday's 5-1 win over Radford. That's the second-longest active win streak in Division One.
LU's 47 wins this year is also a new program record and is tied for the fourth-most wins in the nation.
This will be the Flames' third appearance all-time in the NCAA Tournament, the first since 2011. LU is going for its first NCAA Tourney win.
Autumn Bishop, BIG SOUTH TOURNAMENT MVP, said "We have a really good lineup, when we're on, we're on. And we're always like, just ready to compete and just hitting whatever is thrown at us."
Taylor Hoffman, FLAMES SOPH. LEFT FIELDER , said "We have the talent to compete with anyone. UCLA is ranked number one in the country and we took them to a 3-2 game in seven innings. So I don't think you should count us out for anything."
