Justin Fuente shoots down rumors of leaving Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WSET) - At the end of the day, Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente says the rumor mill was filled with just that. Rumors.

The second year Hokies coach squashed rumors of leaving Blacksburg during Sunday's conference call with reporters for the Camping World Bowl game. Despite being rumored to be an early contender for the head coaching position at Florida State, Fuente emphasized he had not talked to anyone, saying “For me, it’s been easy. I’ve declined to talk to everybody that’s come’s a pretty easy answer for me. I haven’t been interested in going down that road.”

Fuente resigned from coaching the Memphis Tigers on November 29th, one day after his team defeated SMU, in order to accept the Hokies job, replacing Frank Beamer. And while Fuente says he wouldn't predict the future, he says Blacksburg is the perfect fit for him right now. “I think everybody knows I’m incredibly happy at Virginia Tech,” Fuente said. “I think I’ve proved it in my short time here. I would never speculate on any other jobs, other than to say we’ve been approached and I’ve declined to talk to anybody. So it’s pretty much been nipped in the bud right from the start.”
