#3 Virginia fearless in shooting three pointers in win over Syracuse
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WSET) - Virginia guard Kyle Guy admits it. If coach Tony Bennett had his way Tuesday night, the #3 Cavaliers would have attacked the gaps in the Syracuse defense a little more.
But what can you do? The former "Mr. Basketball" in Indiana was, in his words, "feeling it."
Virginia launched a season high 27-three point attempts, out of their 53 total shots on the night, landing 9 of them. Kyle Guy's 5 threes helped the sophomore lead all scorers with 22 points in the 68-61 win that helped Virginia move to 15-1 on the year, and a perfect 4-0 in the ACC.
Guy's 2 treys in the opening 6 minutes helped the Cavs survive a cold start to the game. Early in the 2nd half, Sophomore Ty Jerome hit 3 three-point shots that helped the Hoos balloon their lead up to 14, before Syracuse used a late rally to cut the final deficit to 7.
Afterwards, Cavaliers coach Tony Bennett told reporters he didn't have an issue with the number of long ball attempts, saying "You just want to get quality shots. Maybe two or three, I thought, were a little rushed and not good shots, but we had some really good looks."
