12 Jefferson Forest athletes make college commitments
BEDFORD CO., Va. (WSET) - It was a packed house at Wednesday's signing ceremony at Jefferson Forest, where 12 senior athletes were recognized for their college commitments.
Madison Brown is heading to Randolph to play softball, Josiah Calkins to Emory & Henry for baseball. Baseball teammate Jacob Helbling commits to Ferrum.
Mary Dorman will play soccer for Randolph. Jordan Hicks commits to Lynchburg for cheerleading.
Football's O.P. Peterson heads to Emory & Henry. Track's Rebekah Graham chooses Randolph College.
Leigha Southall will run cross country and track for Messiah College.
Four swimmers have committed for the fall, Lizzy Braud , Brian Grimmett and Sutton Schonfelder have all selected Roanoke College while Caleb Rice will swim for the Liberty Flames.
Brian Grimmett, COMMITS TO ROANOKE COLLEGE SWIMMING, said "One of my goals is to make NCAAs next year. It's going to take a lot of work, but I think it's possible."
O.P. Peterson, COMMITS TO EMORY & HENRY FOOTBALL, said "Got to work hard, come in knowing plays, getting things on the right foot, being a leader. So that's what they expect out of me."
Leigha Southall, COMMITS TO MESSIAH COLLEGE CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK, said "I'm really excited for Division Three because it's not going to be as much stress as maybe a Division One. But it'll definitely push myself."
