New Covenant Girls, VES Boys advance in VISAA Playoffs

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - The chant of "Thank you, Staples!" ran out from the Van Every athletic center Wednesday night, as V.E.S. head coach Curtis Staples walked off the court.

The only problem? His Bishops aren't done yet.

Jaelin Llewellyn scored a game high 22 points, while 3 other Bishops finished in double figures, as V.E.S. defeated Norfolk Collegiate, 79-68, to advance to the VISAA semifinals in Richmond on Friday.

Patrick Kelly added 15, Alex Decker and Bryce Waterman both with 13 points for the Bishops, who head to their 8th straight final four.


LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - The New Covenant girls team advanced to the final four in their VISAA bracket, holding off a game Roanoke Catholic squad, 43-38.

A.C. Kitrell had a team high 20 points for the Gryphons, who will play top seeded Carlisle on Friday in Richmond. Mahagony Gunn had 13 for Roanoke Catholic, while Maggie Clark added 12.

  • Carlisle 105, Life Christian 93 - B.J. Fitzgerald with 50 points for the Chiefs, who play top-seeded Williamsburg Christian at noon Friday at Virginia State University.
