Summary: The Bishops enter a new era this season, making the move from traditional 11-man football to the 8-man game. A number of other private schools have made the change due to low player numbers in recent years, not wanting to give up the sport. Former Cave Spring, Fork Union Military, UVa and NFL long snapper Danny Aiken takes over as head coach. Aiken says his main goal this first year is to see player growth. The Bishops have lots of returning players who are eager to improve on last year’s results and get the program moving again in the right direction. V.E.S. is not a big team, but the Bishops hope to use good team speed and hard work to their advantage. Aiken says with a new system, everybody must earn their spot. He says it’s been a great atmosphere in practice.
