Outlook: Not much went right for Nelson County in 2016, with an 0-10 season, and an offense that only scored 42 points for the entire season. With that behind them, the Governors and coach Matt Hicks are looking more polished in camp than a year ago, and the attitude remains upbeat. Hicks is shaking up the roster, with some players changing positions. QB Devante Ellis-Rose switches to safety and wide receiver, while Sophomore Brice Wilson now takes the snaps. With the Governors stepping back from Dogwood District competition for the time being, the pieces of playing winning football are starting to fall into place in Nelson. 6 starters return, and the line and receiving corp both look bigger and stronger, a credit to the players for working hard in the weight room. The returning starters, along with the Seniors, will need to step up and lead the young squad to some wins, and bring pride back to the Governors faithful.
