Area boxer Sigmon prepares to fight legendary Roy Jones, Jr.
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Area boxer Scott Sigmon got some amazing news just a couple of days ago.
The 30-year-old Bedford native will get an opportunity to step into the ring against a boxing legend next month.
Sigmon will fight former four division world champion Roy Jones, Junior in his hometown of Pensacola, Florida Thursday, February 8th.
Sigmon told me he helped save a fight for one of Jones' boxers on an undercard last year, now Jones is returning the favor, choosing Sigmon as his opponent. Jones is still boxing, he turns 49 in two weeks.
Scott Sigmon, WILL FIGHT ROY JONES, JR. FEB. 8, said "Athletes of this caliber, you know age, I mean obviously he's getting close to 50 but it's still Roy Jones. And he might not be Roy Jones for the whole 30 minutes of the fight, but he might Roy Jones for 10 minutes or 12 minutes of the fight. And I mean Roy Jones is one of the greatest fighters who ever drew breath. And like I said it's just an honor to be in the ring with him and and I'm gonna do the best that I can."
