Appomattox Co., Salem Football ABC 13 Teams of the Week

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Today we spotlight our TWO area state champions, both won their third-straight state title Sunday.

The Appomattox County RAIDERS came from behind with less than two minutes left to edge R.E. Lee-Staunton, JaVon Scruggs hit Devin Dews with the go-ahead TD.

Then the defense stood tall to preserve the 38-34 victory.

Salem, meantime, broke open a six-point game in the final minutes to beat Louisa County.

De'Angelo Ramsey's 79-yard TD helped seal the 43-22 win. Salem and Appomattox two of only eight Virginia teams since 1924 to win three straight state football titles.

Stephen Magenbauer, SALEM HEAD COACH, said "It's just so hard to get here and we really want to enjoy that journey and that ride. It's so hard to get here and for them to do it three times, you know, they'll never know how impressed I am with them."

Doug Smith, APPOMATTOX CO. HEAD COACH, said "Our kids always believe. They're always gonna believe they've got another opportunity, they've got another chance. We just want to honor and do the right things for our community. We want to do the right things for people. These guys know they've got a platform and they want to use that platform to do great things with it."
