GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WZTV) — A Kentucky man and his family recently had quite the run-in with some unlicensed bears who were feeling the need for speed in Gatlinburg.
Chad Morris, a barber at CMO BarberShop in Owensboro, Ky., came face to face with a bear and her three cubs when vacationing in the Great Smoky Mountains last week.
Morris tells FOX 17 News that it all started when he, his wife, boys, parents and cousins were driving up and down the mountain looking for their cabin. Like most do in the Volunteer State, a woman, noticing someone who might be lost, stepped in to help the family.
Luckily, the good Samaritan knew right where the family needed to be and they set off for their cabin. But the unexpected happened when they were unloading the vehicle, preparing for an adventure that came a little sooner than anticipated.
Morris said he heard his family members yelling, 'there's a bear, there's a bear!' and he came running out. Sure enough, a mama bear and three cubs had helped themselves to his vehicle. Photos show the bears actually getting inside the car and getting comfortable behind the wheel.
"They didn't hesitate, they just jumped right inside the windows," Morris said.
The bears stayed about 5 to 10 minutes, making their way from Morris' car to his father's car. Morris said his dad was laughing when the bears took over his son's car, but when they started in on his one-year old vehicle, 'it wasn't so funny anymore,' Morris laughed.
Morris said he and the family stayed up into the early morning hours replaying videos of what they had just saw. It's sure to be memories the family will look back on for years to come.
