U.S. celebrates National Hippo Day Friday

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- Friday marks the holiday celebrating our large aquatic friend, the Hippopotamus.

The hippo's name actually stems from Greece where it can be translated as "water horse", though Hippo's are more closely related to whales, and pigs.

Though they may look friendly, they are one of the most aggressive animals in the world and their yawn, though cute, can be a sign of aggression in the species.

So give off a good yawn, relax as much as possible, and enjoy the day as we celebrate the large aquatic mammal.
