CRESTVIEW, Fla. (WEAR) — A Crestview mom is facing two counts of child neglect charges after officers inspected her home to reveal extremely poor conditions while children were living there.
According to a report from the Crestview Police Department, the daughter of 23-year-old Angelica Crites called 911 due to her and her brother being unable to wake their mother, who was locked inside her room.
The reports states officers had to pry the bedroom door open to gain access since Crites was not responding to verbal announcements.
Upon entry of the room, police were able to wake Crites up, to which she said she was sleeping because she had been out late with friends, according to the report.
Upon further inspection, police took a closer look at the home, which they observed countless spider webs, animal feces on the floors, cups full of black liquids and cigarette buts, a refrigerator in an unsanitary state, mold and trash, according to the report.
The report also revealed the children had extremely dirty feet and their teeth were black and gray in color- something which appeared to officers the children had not been properly taken care of.
Both children stated a lamp was broken earlier in the day and the daughter had cut her foot on it, according to the report.
The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) arrived on scene and advised the children were not allowed to stay in the residence given its current condition.
Crites also revealed she was aware of the condition the home was in, the report said.
Crites was taken to the Okaloosa County Jail on two counts of child neglect.
She is being held on a $4,000 bond.
