MERIDIAN, Idaho (KBOI) – Ammon Bundy made things official on Saturday.
Although he took the initial steps by filing paperwork with the Idaho Secretary of State's office last month, Bundy, along with family, friends and supporters, officially announced his candidacy for governor at Kleiner Park in Meridian.
His campaign mantra? Keep Idaho, Idaho.
Current Idaho Gov. Brad Little, Lt. Gov. Janice McGeachin and four other Republicans — Jeff Cotton, Edward Humphreys, Lisa Marie and Cody Usabel — have also filed campaign documentation needed to run for governor.
A well-known conservative and anti-government activist, Bundy has had numerous encounters with officials and police – most recently with a no trespassing order at the Idaho Statehouse in 2020. He was seen being dragged out of the building by an office chair and later refused to wear a mask during a court hearing, prompting yet another arrest.
The Idaho GOP has repeatedly said that it does not support or condone his antics "or his chaotic political theater."
