MOORESVILLE, N.C. (WSET) -- Police in Mooresville, North Carolina say a three-year-old girl was taken to the hospital after she was found unresponsive in a car.

Police said CPR was administered on scene, but the child was later pronounced dead, WSOC reported.

Law enforcement officials said they are trying to determine if the law was broken.

"Definetly just a tragic, a tragic incident that occured on Saturday afternoon we want to give the family their privacy at this point we are talking to other family members who were there at the home," said Major Gerald Childress, with the Mooresville Police Dept.

Police said a group of children were driven to a local park and at some point after they were brought back home when the child was found.

Investigators have established a timeline and know about how long the girl was in the car, but they are not releasing that information.

Police said officers are going to question family and friends, also an autopsy has been ordered for the child.

After the autopsy comes back, police will determine if charges are warranted.
