WASHINGTON (7News) — A woman well-known for cooking Christmas meals for DC Police officers has died.
Shirley Gibson passed away Friday night, according to 7News' Sam Ford. Her son Brian Gibson was an officer with the Metropolitan Police Department.
In 1997, Ofc. Gibson was killed in the line of duty while sitting in his cruiser waiting for a light to change.
Shirley said she missed cooking Christmas dinner for Brian after his tragic passing and she started cooking meals for his colleagues.

Shirley would spread the word to officers to stop by her Southeast Washington home to eat a holiday meal, or they could pick one up. She prepared her 20th and final dinner in 2016.
Moreover, Shirley was an advocate for many police issues and was beloved by police officers, Ford reports.
It's with great sadness to hear of the passing of Shirley Gibson, mother of Ofc. Brian Gibson, who was killed in the line of duty in 1997. Mrs. Gibson became a mother to our entire department, and welcomed us into her home for holiday dinner every year. She will be deeply missed. DC Police tweeted Saturday.
