Wintergreen Resort opened a week early, thanks to mother nature

NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WSET) -- Wintergreen Resort was able to open up a week early because of mother nature...and they were measuring their snowfall in feet!

"We've been able to get open a little earlier this year," said Zach Marlowe, the Director of Ski Operations. "The cold weather has been beautiful for us."

Mother Nature brought the resort more than a foot of snow.

"Here on the mountain, we saw about 17-21 inches of snow," says Marlowe.

He added that that's not counting the packed powder, which means they are experiencing mid-season conditions!

"It's probably about 30 percent more snow than I typically would normally have at the moment," said Marlowe.

Thanks to the winter storm, many people are using their newfound time off to hit the slopes.

Wintergreen also reminds you that even after the snow melts in your backyard, they have you covered.

"Check out the web cameras, we typically have snow in our backyard," said Marlowe.
