Winter storm will drop more than 12" of snow across Virginia

Heavy snow will snarl roads and airports this weekend as a winter storm drops over a foot of snow across parts of Virginia.

No major travel problems are expected Saturday. Clouds will thicken, and most of us remain dry through Saturday night.

Snow begins Sunday morning. Once the snow starts, some of us will have snow falling for 24 hours!

Snow totals will range from 8” to 20” across the mountains of SW Virginia.

Much of Southside gets 6” to 14”, with totals decreasing to 3” to 8” near Lynchburg. The totals in the Lynchburg and north of Lynchburg are the most questionable as they could go up or down depending on small shifts in the track.

On Sunday, flights will likely be cancelled from Lynchburg, Roanoke and Greensboro. Delays or cancellations are possible for CHO, RDU, CLT and RIC.

You can use these maps to help you plan your travel— bottom line, be ready to be “snowed in” on Sunday! - George
