Winter Storm Warning issued ahead of weekend snow

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for much of our viewing area starting at 1 p.m. Saturday and going through 7 p.m. Sunday.

Snow showers develop Saturday morning and scattered snow showers will be seen during the day.

The Lynchburg area will see 4-8 inches, Roanoke at 5-10 inches, and higher amounts are expected for the mountains.

Southside will see the largest range.

Actual amounts could be more exaggerated than what is seen on the map.

More sleet/freezing rain will fall in the area across Southside where you see the lower snow totals.

The worst driving conditions begin Saturday night.

Roads will also be terrible all day Sunday with the worst conditions likely early when the heaviest precipitation is falling, but conditions will still be bad all day.
