Winter Storm Warning for Lynchburg, most of ABC-13 area

Heavy snow is coming!

A large winter storm will bring rain and snow to the Carolinas and Virginia on Sunday, and snowfall amounts could exceed 1 foot in Southside.

Ahead of the storm, Saturday will be dry. Clouds will gradually thicken, the breeze will be light and highs reach the upper 30s.

Snow begins Sunday morning. The first snowflakes will fall across Southside before sunrise, gradually expanding northward into Lynchburg and Roanoke through and before Noon.

Once the snow moves in, you expect snowfall to persist all afternoon and much of Sunday night.

Amounts likely reach the 4” to 8” range in Lynchburg and Roanoke area. Snow totals will be lower north of Lynchburg.

Snow totals of 10” to 15” can be expected in the mountains and Southside including Danville.

The snow quickly ends Monday morning, followed by rapid clearing.
