LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- Get out those shovels and sleds!

A significant winter storm is being forecasted for our area that includes Lynchburg, Southside, and Roanoke.

While the timing of exactly when the snow begins on Saturday is still to be determined, all locations will receive snow and even heavy snow by Saturday night.

Snowfall amounts in the five to 10 inches range are in the forecast for Lynchburg with the Roanoke area ranging from five to 14 inches.

The biggest forecast uncertainty are the amounts for Southside. If warmer air begins invading from the south earlier than anticipated Sunday morning, then those totals could be too high.

You can expect widespread snow covered roads by Saturday evening and all day Sunday.

VDOT said they are prepared and their best advice is to let crews do their job this weekend.
