LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Lynchburg Water Resources crews were working to repair a water main break on Route 460 East early Wednesday morning.

Officials with Lynchburg Emergency Communications said someone called them just before 2 a.m. and told them they saw water gushing onto the road.

When our ABC 13 News crew arrived on scene they saw water from the break rushing out like a geyser around 20 feet in the air.

Lynchburg Water Resources shut down Route 460 East near Holcomb Path Road for a few hours and turned off the water.

Police were diverting traffic to Campbell Avenue.

Crews were able to open the right lane of Route 460 East just after 6:15 a.m.

Lynchburg Water Resource Director Tim Mitchell said they were planning on shutting down the left lane on Route 460 West while crews made the repairs.

Officials said Templetons Market down the road did not have water as of 6:30 a.m.

Mitchell said people that live in that area could experience some discolored water or possible service interruptions while the repairs were being made.

Mitchell said around 5:30 a.m. the water main break could take up to eight hours to repair.

This is a developing story, stay with ABC 13 for updates.
