Washington Co. teen dies in fatal accident after trying to 'hood surf' on car

WASHINGTON Co, Va. (WSET) -- According to State Police, there was a fatal accident in Washington County Wednesday.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Childress Hollow Road and Spring Valley Road.

Police say, a 16-year-old Washington County female was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier when her 15-year-old male passenger climbed out of the vehicle and onto the hood of the car to"hood surf"

The car was travelling below the 35 mph speed limit, when the teen slid off the hood of the car. The driver was unable to brake in time and struck him. He died at the scene.

The 16-year-old female was cited for reckless driving after consultation with the Washington County Commonwealth Attorney.

There is one confirmed fatality.
