Virginia Private College Week kicks off

Averett says they see around 50 to 80 students this week.

DANVILLE, Va. (WSET) - In a few weeks, kids will hit the books again as they head back to school.

This week though is all about private colleges across Virginia. They are welcoming prospective students to their campuses, as part of Private College Week. This week is done with the Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia.

Twenty-four colleges across Virginia are participating. The week showcases the private colleges and locally, Averett University is participating, along with Liberty, Lynchburg College, and Sweet Briar College.

Averett says they offer on campus tours at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. during the week. They also offer one on Saturday.

The university adds this is a good opportunity for high school juniors, seniors, and transfer students.

University officials say it's all about promoting all of the schools and if a student visits three or more schools during the week, they say, CICV will send them application fee waivers for the schools of their choice.

"It's a good way for students to get on campus. It highlights schools in Virginia. Here at Averett, they'll have the opportunity to tour campus, get information on financial aid, get to go see our auxiliary campus tours," Joel Nester, Averett's director of undergraduate admissions, explains.

For Averett you can register for tours online or call. Walk-ins are also welcome.
