Virginia family impacted by government shutdown wins $100K top lottery prize
ASHBURN, Va. (ABC7) — An Ashburn woman who walked away with Virginia Lottery's top $100,000 prize says the winnings came at the right time; her husband is a furloughed federal worker affected by the partial government shutdown.
"I cried. I couldn’t believe it,” said Carrie Walls of Ashburn.
Walls's ticket was drawn out of more than 554,000 entries in the Dec. 4 drawing to win the top prize of a Ford Expedition, plus the $100,000 prize. Walls claimed her Expedition at Koons Sterling Ford in Sterling along with her check issued by the Virginia Lottery on Friday.
She told the Virginia Lottery that the prize is well-timed due to her husband not currently working due to the government shutdown.
Next, Walls is planning to take her family to Disney World.
