VDOT: Be prepared for slick, icy conditions Wednesday; roads not being pretreated

SALEM, Va. (WSET) -- With winter weather forecasted to impact portions of our area starting Tuesday night, March 20 into Wednesday, March 21, VDOT is asking you to be prepared for slick or icy road conditions.

VDOT said a difference in just a few degrees of air or ground temperatures will determine if ice or snow accumulates on roadways or not.

In addition, snow could be heavy at times, covering roads overnight into Wednesday morning.

Make sure to pay attention to bridges, overpasses, curves, shaded areas, higher elevations, cooler spots, and elevated surfaces that may become slick or snow-covered before other areas.

VDOT said crews will not be pretreating roads with brine ahead of this storm because it's expected to start out as rain before transitioning into freezing rain or snow.

Remember, you can get real-time information on road conditions, traffic accidents, and congestion on the roads by using VDOT's 511.
