Tractor trailer wreck closes I-81 NB lanes in Montgomery Co.; 5.5 miles of traffic backup

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — The northbound lanes of I-81 are closed in Montgomery County due to a crash that left a tractor trailer on its side.

The Montgomery Fire-EMS Department posted a photo of the accident on Facebook warning drivers of the incident and letting them know about the detour.

The crash, located at the 127 mile marker, is causing traffic to be rerouted off Interstate 81 onto Roanoke Road at Exist 118.

The crash could take up to the middle of the day to get cleared, MFEMSD said.

VDOT said traffic is backed up over 5 miles as of 9:30 a.m. Even with the detour, traffic is backed up at Edit 118 for another 1.5 miles.
