BEDFORD Co., Va. (WSET) -- Liberty High School students are mourning the loss of their friend, 18-year-old Nicholas Bernard.

The Bedford County Sheriff's office says the senior died after a reported shooting early Monday morning.

His friends say the hallways at school just aren't the same since Nicholas passed away, saying a piece of them is missing after the tragedy.

Nick's sister Elizabeth Detamore said he was adventurous growing up and a daredevil.

Detamore said she's going to miss his smile the most.

"Being able to laugh, go talk to him when I need him," she added.

Nick was the glue that held this their big friend group together.

"It's just crazy how he brought so many people together, and before Nick I didn't know half of these people, I didn't know any of them," one friend said.

"If you didn't have nothing to do, you went to Nick's, and there was probably about 15 people there," another added.

They say they're more than friends, rather, family and thank Nick's parents for always taking them in.

They will carry parts of Nick's joyous and positive personality forever.

Bernard's body will be transported to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke for an autopsy.

The Sheriff's Office is waiting on the autopsy results before any more information will be released on what happened.

The family has created a GoFundMe to help with funeral costs.
