A Lynchburg staple has launched a new weekly promotion to support those who serve the community.

The Texas Inn has announced its "Salute to Service" promotion.

In January, all three locations of the restaurant began offering a 20% discount all day on Mondays to first responders.

This includes law enforcement officers, firefighters, paramedics, and active duty members of the military. To receive the discount, Texas Inn says participants must be dressed in uniform or show a valid ID from their agency or branch.

Since Lynchburg native Dave Saunders assumed ownership of the restaurant in 2018, he’s found numerous ways to support others, including canned food drives and sponsorships for YWCA of Central Virginia initiatives.

However, Sanders said serving those who personally give so much to the community has always held a special place in his heart.

“My father, Wayne Saunders, was the long-time fire marshal for the City of Lynchburg, so I grew up surrounded by first responders,” he said. “I’ve always held a deep respect for firefighters and all first responders and I know how big their hearts — and appetites — are, so we are happy to salute these hometown heroes with great meals at an even greater price.”

So far, the restaurant said the “Salute to Service” offer has been a big hit both at the restaurants and on social media.

The Texas Inn said its first announcement of the promotion on social media has received more than 7 million views since January 30 and made Texas Inn server Debbie “Big Mama” Eagle an overnight sensation.
