HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — A small fire in a house on Stage Coach Road was put out Monday by firefighters in the Halifax County area.
The Brookneal Volunteer Fire Department took to Facebook to share photos of the incident and give the details of what happened.
BVFD said they were dispatched for a structure fire to the house, where arriving crews found heavy black smoke coming from the basement.
"Firefighters were met with blacked out smoke conditions upon entering the structure and proceeded into the basement to find and extinguish a small fire," BVFD said.
Officials said other responding departments helped ventilate the house and get the items out that were affected by the fire.
The cause of the fire was later determined to be a dehumidifier that malfunctioned and caught fire. BVFD said the damage was contained to the dehumidifier and a few small items around it.
