Sheriff's office warns of new scam of caller pretending to be employee

PITTSYLVANIA Co., Va. (WSET) -- The Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office said a phone scam is circulating in southside Virginia.

A spokesperson said it appears a caller is pretending to be an employee of the sheriff's office.

They said to remember that the sheriff's office will not contact you in regards to a fine, court cost, or anything to do with money.

The Pittsylvania County Sheriffs Offices urges citizens not to provide any banking information to callers whom are unaware of their identities or those whom you do not conduct routine business with," the spokesperson said.

If you have gotten a call like this, the sheriff's office said to call the them or your local law enforcement agency.
