Sheriff's Office: Vehicle of missing man found over Lover's Leap cliff

Phillip D. Lilly (Henry County Sheriff's Office)

HENRY Co., Va. (WSET) -- The Patrick County Sheriff's Office said a vehicle registered to a missing Henry County man was been recovered in the county.

Phillip Daniel Lilly, 62, of Ridgeway, was reported missing on December 29, 2017.

The Sheriff's Office said VDOT employees found a 2001 Toyota Sedan that had gone over a cliff at Lover's Leap.

VDOT then notified the sheriff's office and Virginia State Police responded to the scene.

On the scene, the sheriff's office said it was determined that the vehicle was unoccupied and that a crash didn't cause it to go over a cliff.

The sheriff's office said they believe that the vehicle had been there for "quite some time" and no human remains were found.

Lilly is still considered missing.

The Patrick County Sheriff's Office said it's working closely with the Henry County Sheriff's Office on the investigation.

Anyone with information on Lilly is asked to contact Patrick County Investigator Brian Hubbard at 276-692-6512 or Henry County Investigator David Ayers at 276-638-8751.
