Sheriff: Teen shoots, kills Martinsville man after argument

HENRY Co., Va. (WSET) -- The Henry County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide involving a minor shooting a man.

Officials say the Martinsville-Henry County 911 center got a call about a person who had been shot outside a home at 1648 Rivermont Heights Rd in Martinsville on Saturday, February 2.

When deputies got to the scene, they say the occupant of the home was on the porch, suffering from a gunshot wound.

The deputies performed CPR on the victim until EMS arrived. The victim was then taken to SOVAH Health Martinsville where he was pronounced dead.

Officials identified the victim asEric Montequilla Barksdale, 32. He lived in the home on Rivermont Heights Rd.

Officials say an autopsy will be done by theOffice of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Through their investigation, officials found that an argument had begun between Barksdale and a 17-year-old boy. The two went outside, where the teen shot Barksdale and then fled on foot.

Deputies have outstanding charges against the teen for2nd degree murder, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony and reckless handling of a firearm.
