17-year-old charged with shooting man in Amherst County
UPDATE: 2:15 p.m.
The Amherst County Sheriff's Office said they responded to a shooting in Madison Heights around 3 a.m. Thursday, December 6.
Deputies said the caller claimed a man had been shot at a home on Longview Drive.
The victim, a 51-year-old man, left the scene before deputies got there, but was later located at Sheetz in Madison Heights and taken to the hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
When deputies got to the scene, they said the shooter, identified as a 17-year-old boy, was apprehended after a short foot chase.
The sheriff's office said it's unclear if the boy and victim knew each other at this time, but the boy did not live at the home.
The suspect was taken into custody and charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
He's being held at the Lynchburg Detention Center.
The incident is still under investigation.
