BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — UPDATE: Scott Donald, a missing 10-year-old boy, had been found by Bedford County authorities.
"It’s a great day. It doesn’t always end this way. We have been worried all afternoon. We had all our resources up here to find him before dark and before the storm came. We got lucky and did. Today was a win," said Major John Wilks, Bedford County Sheriff's Office.
Wilks says crews were able to find Donald through the Project Lifesaver bracelet he was wearing.
"The child wears a band on his arm. If he wanders off, we can come in the area with our equipment and start riding around with the arena. When you start getting closer, the software will let you know that. It helps to lead them to wherever they are," said Wilks.
Multiple bloodhounds and drones were also deployed to help assist in the search.
"We had crews on ATVs, with this equipment riding around with the owner lines and on the mountain. They were able to get a ping on top of the mountain and led them to him," said Wilks.
Donald was found safe and reunited with his family after an evaluation from authorities.
"We thank everyone who helped us out. Today was a win. We are very happy about that," said Wilks.
