Rustburg landfill to reach capacity by 2030, director looking for expansion options
RUSTBURG, Va. (WSET) -- In the year 2030, the Livestock Road Regional Landfill in Rustburg will reach capacity.
Now they're looking at options and are in the planning process to extend the landfill's life to the year 2050.
Those potential options include expanding the current location at Livestock Road, building a transfer station, or building a facility that converts waste to energy.
They say they have to plan 10 to 12 years ahead because the rezoning and permitting process takes significant time.
"The Livestock Road landfill expansion did rank number one in our cost benefit analysis, but we are considering all of the options," said the landfill director, Clarke Gibson.
Gibson says they met with the Campbell County Board of Supervisors last week to explore these options.
