Police: Man accidentally shot in Roanoke apartment


ROANOKE, Va. (WSET) - Police are investigating a shooting that took place Monday night in Roanoke.

They said police were called to the 5600 block of King Arthur's Court NW near Cove Road at around 8:46 p.m. and found two men in an apartment, one with a gun shot wound.

According to officials, as one male victim was being treated by Roanoke Fire EMS, officers discovered the other man with the victim was the one who had shot him.

Police said the investigation shows that one adult male and the adult male victim were handling firearms in the breezeway of the apartment complex when the one male accidentally discharged the handgun, hitting the other man.

They said the victim was then brought back to the apartment and 911 was called.

According to officials, alcohol does appear to be involved on the part of the male who shot the victim.

Detectives and Forensic Investigators are continuing to investigate this offense.

They said the male who shot the victim was interviewed and the Commonwealth Attorney has been consulted on the facts at this time in the investigation.

According to police, the victim is still in Carilion Roanoke Memorial.

Charges are pending following the conclusion of the investigation.
