LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - The Red Letter Christian Revival began at E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg Friday evening.
The revival is sponsored by the Red Letter Christians (RLC), a movement based on the counter-cultural teachings of Jesus.
Organizers said they're concerned about the state of the country and the church.
"We really want our Christianity to be known for its love for Jesus more than its love for Trump," said Shane Claiborne, an author, activist and RLC member.
RLC initially reached out to Liberty University to hold the event there, but they received a letter indicating they could be fined or arrested if caught trespassing on campus.
"It reveals the heart of the problem, and we want to talk with each other, not at each other," Claiborne said.
LU President Jerry Falwell, Jr. told ABC 13 he had no comment about the situation, saying "they don't deserve any attention."
"Lynchburg is in a resurgence, and the faith communities are playing such an important role in our city," Vice Mayor Treney Tweedy said.
Organizers said they hope their words will bring unity.
The revival continues Saturday. For more information, click here.
