Power pole fire leaves over 1,000 without power on 221 in Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- About 1,031 customers are without power following a fire at the top of a power pole in the Cottontown Road region of 221.

According to Appalachian Power, the fire occurred around 6:37 p.m. Wednesday and caused damage that affected the distribution line.

The traffic lights are out in the Cottontown Road region of 221 to Enterprise in addition to all the areas off 221 in those vicinities.

They say a first crew responded around 7:45 p.m. to begin restoring the power.

A restoration time has not been given as there may be a need for a new pole.
