HALIFAX Co., Va. (WSET) -- A possible tornado blew through a small portion of Halifax County during storms Friday evening.
A firefighter with the Halifax Volunteer Fire Department says the storm caused tons of trees to fall and caused major damage.
He says their crews were responding to a vehicle entrapment, where a horse and buggy had overturned on Hundley Road.
On their way to the scene, there were about 10 uprooted trees blocking the fire crew from the buggy crash.
He said they then got a call on that same road of a caved in house with people inside. The Halifax and Triangle Volunteer Fire Departments both responded to the home.
Luckily all four people inside were safe.
They also responded to another home where a tree fell on the house. The couple that lived inside were unharmed.
He said the winds during the storm were so strong they snapped 30 inch wide trees like twigs and blew giant hay bales 100 yards into the road in the span of 20 minutes.
He says all the the damage happened between the 2000 and 4000 blocks of Hundley Road.
