Police: Wanted Lynchburg man found dead from apparent suicide

Curtis Lamont Dammones (Lynchburg Police)

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- The Lynchburg Police Department said a man wanted for abduction, rape, and assault has apparently committed suicide.

Police said they responded to Wise Street Monday after a report that Curtis Lamont Dammones, 33, of Lynchburg was possibly armed, inside a home.

The landlord of the property, Robert Crews said police asked him to unlock the apartment around 3:30 p.m. He didn't have the keys, so LPD kicked down the door.

The tactical unit was called to the scene and a search was conducted, but officials say Dammones was nowhere to be found.

The whole ordeal was about four hours, according to Crews.

Police said officers responded to Fillmore Street Tuesday where they found a deceased individual with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

They said while the investigation is still ongoing, the individual has been identified as Dammones.

His body has now been sent to the Medical Examiner's Office for further confirmation.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective Dempsey at (434)455-6161 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-798-59
