Police: Two vehicles crash after swerving to miss a deer

CAMPBELL CO., Va. (WSET) -- Two vehicles crashed on Route 460, and their drivers say a deer is to blame.

That's according to Virginia State Police.

Officials say the drivers were caravanning when they both swerved to miss a deer in the road.

Police say the crash happened near the Mt. Athos Road exit around 7:45 P.M. on Friday night.

Law enforcement tells ABC13 that one of the vehicles spun out and then wrecked, they say the other hit a guardrail and then went down an embankment.

Police say the driver of the car that went down the embankment was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital.

Their condition is unknown.

Officials say the drivers of both cars have been charged with failure to maintain control.

Police believe speed was a factor.
