Police: Two people shot in Danville
DANVILLE, Va. (WSET) - Danville Police are investigating after a shooting sends two people to the hospital Saturday afternoon.
Authorities on scene told ABC 13 that the shooting took place just before 4:30 p.m. at the Pit Stop Mart in the 1300 block of Piney Forest Road.
"We know that several shots [were] fired," Sergeant J. W. McLaughlin said.
Ryan Hershey was working in the Pit Stop Mart in the 1300 block of Piney Forest Road road when he said people started shooting outside.
"Someone went outside and there's a couple people in the white car over there and they, I guess they had some kind of talk and some guy went and clapped the one dude up, and they were talking stuff like that," Hershey said.
But then, Hershey said things shortly took a turn for the worse.
"As the one person was walking away I guess the other people were saying something," Hershey said. "They were just talking back and forth and they all got into the car... then they all jumped back out of the car and one guy pulled a gun out and started shooting."
Danville Police dispatch told us the two people who were shot have non-life threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital.
"Yeah the two people who were in the white car were taken to the hospital," Hershey said. "They came out shooting and then, you know, shots were fired back and they got hit."
As far as why this happened?
"At this time that portion is still under investigation," Sgt. McLaughlin said. "We're still trying to see what all went on from the time the shots rang out and officers arrived on scene."
Sgt. McLaughlin said the public does not have to worry and that this was an isolated incident.
"Police are interviewing subjects as we speak, not sure if they live in the city or from around the area, but the police are speaking with someone at this time," Sgt. McLaughlin said.
The whole incident is still under investigation, as well as, who exactly did the shooting.
