DANVILLE, Va. (WSET) -- The Danville Police Department said a suspect is on the loose after robbing a store in Danville Wednesday night.

Police said officers responded to Carniceria 2 Toros on Westover Drive in reference to a robbery around 9:15 p.m.

They said a female employee reported that she was robbed after closing the business.

She said a shot, chubby man, approximately 30-years-old, with a beard and diamond earring in his left ear approached her and demanded money.

He also demanded to be let inside the business, police said.

The woman gave the suspect some keys and he tried to get inside, but wasn't able to.

Police said the suspect didn't show a weapon and the woman didn't see one, but he fled the scene with money stolen from the woman's purse.

She said he got into a red Ford Taurus, with possibly a North Carolina license plate, headed west on Westover Drive.
